About Occupational Medicine
Occupational Medicine is a specialty that deals with the health and well-being of workers; how one’s work can affect health (occupational illness and injury) and how one’s health can limit the ability to work (fitness to work). Specialists are trained to recognize disease that could be caused or exacerbated by the workplace or environmental exposures (for workers and non-workers). There are not always clear answers to some of these questions, but it can give patients and their doctors a level of comfort to be more informed about these exposures and health risks. Often patients have concerns about what they are exposed to, how it may affect them, and causation; we can offer an expert opinion on this in terms of: primary (identification, management of risk factors), secondary (diagnosis, treatment), and tertiary prevention (rehabilitation, compensation).
Our Specialist currently accepts referrals for:
- Health Surveillance
- Safety Issues
- Disability Management
- Safety-Sensitive Positions.
If you want help in the prevention and treatmenr of diseases and injuries in the workplace, have your doctor refer to Peak to see our occupational medicine doctor.
